Terms of Service

Effective date: 21 October 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) apply to your access to and use of MarineWise, including app.marinewise.co, its maritime AI assistant, study tools, notes, uploaded learning materials, and examination-practice features. By using MarineWise, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

1. Who may use MarineWise

You must be legally able to accept these Terms under the laws that apply to you. If you use MarineWise on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you are authorized to do so. You are responsible for the accuracy of information you submit to your account.

2. Accounts and security

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for activity carried out through it, subject to applicable law. Do not share your credentials, impersonate another person, or attempt to bypass authentication, access controls, usage limits, or administrator approvals. Notify us through the available support channel if you suspect unauthorized account access.

3. Permitted use

You may use MarineWise for lawful maritime learning, revision, professional development, and related educational purposes. You agree not to:

4. AI-generated maritime content — important limitations

MarineWise uses AI to provide explanations, study assistance, and practice content. AI-generated responses may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or unsuitable for a particular situation. They may omit amendments, local requirements, company procedures, or facts that matter to a decision.

MarineWise is an educational aid, not an official maritime authority, training provider, classification society, flag administration, employer, or substitute for qualified professional judgment. Do not rely solely on an AI response for navigation, watchkeeping, ship operation, emergency response, safety-critical decisions, statutory compliance, certification, or examination rules. Verify information against current primary sources, applicable laws and regulations, official notices, approved manuals, company procedures, and instructions from qualified personnel. In an emergency, follow official procedures and the direction of the responsible authorities and officers.

MarineWise does not guarantee examination results, certification, employment, regulatory acceptance, or the correctness of any particular answer.

5. User content and uploads

You retain the rights you hold in content you submit, subject to rights of third parties. You confirm that you have the necessary rights and permissions to upload or share it. By submitting content, you grant MarineWise permission to process, store, and use it as reasonably necessary to operate the features you request, provide AI responses, secure the service, and maintain its operation.

Do not upload confidential company documents, restricted vessel information, personal data about others, copyrighted material without permission, or sensitive operational details unless you are authorized to do so. Features and storage locations may differ; do not assume that content saved in one feature is available in another or that browser-stored content is backed up to your account.

6. Intellectual property

MarineWise and its design, software, branding, and original service materials are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. These Terms do not transfer ownership of the service to you. You may use outputs provided to you for lawful personal or professional learning, subject to applicable law, third-party rights, and any separate terms that apply to source material. AI outputs may not be unique and should be checked before reuse or publication.

7. Third-party services and links

MarineWise may rely on third-party services, including Google sign-in, Supabase, OpenAI, hosting providers, and external websites or search results. Those services may have separate terms, availability, and privacy practices. MarineWise is not responsible for third-party content or services to the extent permitted by law.

8. Availability, changes, and suspension

We may update, suspend, restrict, or discontinue features, impose reasonable usage limits, or perform maintenance to operate and protect MarineWise. We may suspend or terminate access where we reasonably believe these Terms have been violated, the service is at risk, or we are required to do so by law. We will act in accordance with applicable law.

9. Disclaimers

To the extent permitted by law, MarineWise is provided on an “as available” basis, without guarantees that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure in every circumstance, or suitable for every purpose. Nothing in these Terms excludes a consumer right or other protection that cannot lawfully be excluded.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, MarineWise and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive losses, or for loss of data, profits, business, or opportunities arising from use of or inability to use the service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability where such limitation is prohibited by law, including liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

11. Privacy

Your use of MarineWise is also subject to our Privacy Policy, which explains how information is handled.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may revise these Terms as the service evolves. We will update the effective date when we publish a new version. Continued use after updated Terms become effective constitutes acceptance to the extent permitted by law. If you do not agree with a change, stop using MarineWise.
